The 11th edition of the India Maize Summit, organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), was successfully held today at Federation House, New Delhi. The summit brought together key stakeholders from across the maize value chain, including industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, agritech entrepreneurs, and farmers, to discuss the future of maize in India’s agri-economy.
Inaugural Address by Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan
The event was inaugurated by Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Government of India. In his keynote address, Shri Chouhan emphasized maize as a crop with immense strategic value for India’s agricultural and economic growth.
“India ranks third globally in maize production, yet our per-hectare productivity remains lower than global standards. We must invest in intensified research, adopt cost-effective and scalable production methods, and develop mechanisms that ensure better price realization for our farmers,” said Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
He also highlighted the need for technology-driven innovations, smart financing mechanisms, and the formation of strong public-private partnerships to build a resilient maize ecosystem. Shri Chouhan further called for boosting agri-entrepreneurship, encouraging youth participation, and aligning maize production with global demand trends in food, feed, and industrial sectors.
Keynote Address by Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister
Delivering the keynote address, Shri Surya Pratap Shahi, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, Agricultural Education & Research, Government of Uttar Pradesh, spoke on the transformative role of technology in agriculture. He underlined how agritech startups, innovation ecosystems, and sustainable practices are revolutionizing maize cultivation and empowering farmers.
“Maize has emerged as a vital crop not just for food security but also for industrial use and animal feed. In a state like Uttar Pradesh, with its vast agrarian base, we see immense opportunities to scale maize production using climate-resilient technologies and market-linked interventions,” he said.
