In a major step toward digital transformation in agriculture, the Government of India has launched Bharat-VISTAAR, an AI-powered farmer support platform designed to provide real-time decision assistance to cultivators across the country. The platform was officially launched on February 17, 2026, by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Bharat-VISTAAR has been conceptualized as an intelligent digital companion aimed at empowering over 140 million Indian farmers. The platform integrates artificial intelligence with agricultural databases, meteorological systems, and market information networks to deliver timely, location-specific advisories.
One of its core features is real-time weather forecasting. Farmers can access localized weather updates, rainfall predictions, and temperature trends to plan sowing, irrigation, and harvesting operations more effectively. In addition, the system provides mandi (market) prices across various agricultural produce markets, enabling farmers to make informed selling decisions and optimize returns.
The platform also offers crop-specific advisory services, including nutrient management guidance, sowing recommendations, and region-wise best practice alerts. Pest and disease outbreak notifications form another critical component, helping farmers take preventive or corrective action before infestations spread.
A key innovation of Bharat-VISTAAR is its accessibility model. Farmers can receive information through simple phone calls, voice-based systems, and digital interfaces such as mobile applications and web portals. The service supports multiple Indian languages, ensuring inclusivity for farmers across diverse linguistic regions.
Officials stated that the initiative aligns with India’s broader strategy of leveraging artificial intelligence and digital public infrastructure to strengthen agricultural productivity, resilience, and income stability. By combining data analytics with grassroots connectivity, the government aims to reduce information asymmetry that often affects small and marginal farmers.
Agricultural experts believe that AI-driven advisory systems can significantly enhance farm-level decision-making, especially in the context of climate variability, volatile markets, and pest risks. With scalable architecture and multilingual support, Bharat-VISTAAR is positioned as a nationwide knowledge network intended to modernize India’s farm ecosystem.
