In a move that celebrates the backbone of Missouri’s rural economy, nominations are now officially open for the prestigious Missouri Master Farmer Award. This annual honor recognizes outstanding farmers who not only demonstrate excellence in agriculture, but also show a strong commitment to their communities and the future of farming in the state.
The award, revived by Missouri Ruralist, is one of the highest accolades given to producers in the region. It aims to highlight individuals who combine innovative and sustainable farming practices with leadership roles beyond the field whether that’s mentoring young farmers, serving on local boards, or volunteering in their communities. Farmers from all sectors, including row crops, livestock, orchards, and specialty operations, are encouraged to participate.
To be eligible, nominees must reside in Missouri, be actively involved in managing their farms, and earn the majority of their income from agricultural production. But beyond farm success, the award shines a spotlight on community impact rewarding those who have made a difference outside their gates.
Nominations are being accepted now through October 1, 2025. Farmers can be nominated by friends, family members, ag professionals, or even nominate themselves. The process is straightforward and does not require personal financial information, but nominees must submit an application and include letters of support that highlight their achievements and community involvement.
Winners will be announced in early 2026 and featured in Missouri Ruralist, both online and in print. Past recipients have called the recognition deeply meaningful, not just for themselves, but for the visibility it brings to family farming and rural leadership across the state.
Organizers are encouraging communities to look around and lift up the farmers who inspire others those who are not only feeding Missouri but also helping shape the next generation of agricultural leaders. With nominations now open, it’s the perfect time to honor those who make Missouri agriculture strong, sustainable, and rooted in service.
