As the Kharif sowing season picks up pace across Uttar Pradesh, the state government has stepped up efforts to ensure that farmers receive a continuous and adequate supply of fertilizers. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the government has not only strengthened fertilizer distribution systems but also launched a state-wide crackdown on hoarding, overpricing, and black-marketing to protect farmers from exploitation.
According to Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, the state has already received 28.56 lakh metric tonnes of urea as of July 10, far exceeding last year’s usage of 18.98 lakh metric tonnes. Additionally, more than 5.83 lakh tonnes of DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) and 4.26 lakh tonnes of NPK fertilizers have been made available in godowns and cooperative stores across the state. This proactive stock management ensures that every district has enough fertilizer to meet farmers’ requirements.
To maintain transparency and control the market, the government has enforced strict surveillance. Surprise inspections are being carried out, and action has already been taken against several retailers for hoarding or overpricing. FIRs have been registered, show-cause notices issued, and licenses of some dealers suspended. Furthermore, the government has mandated that 25% of urea from private company consignments be distributed through the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Federation, ensuring fair availability and distribution at grassroots levels.
On July 8 alone, over 32,700 metric tonnes of urea and 6,566 metric tonnes of DAP were distributed to farmers, reflecting the government’s strong supply chain management. A helpline number (0522-2209650) has also been activated, allowing farmers to report any cases of unethical sales or black-marketing directly to the authorities.
Minister Shahi reassured the farming community that there is no shortage of fertilizers in the state, and that all necessary steps are being taken to facilitate smooth agricultural operations during the monsoon. He urged farmers not to panic or fall prey to misinformation, as sufficient stocks are readily available across all districts.
With timely rains already boosting sowing activities in many parts of the state, this assured supply of fertilizers comes as a major support to farmers, enabling them to plant their crops with confidence. The state government’s focused and coordinated approach has not only eased pressure on the ground but also reinforced its commitment to the welfare of farmers and the stability of the rural economy.
