World Food Safety Day 2026 Theme Announced: “From Burden to Solutions – Safe Food Everywhere”

The theme for World Food Safety Day 2026 has been officially announced as “From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere.” The global campaign will focus on reducing foodborne diseases and strengthening food safety systems through science-based practices.

The annual observance, led by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), highlights the importance of ensuring safe food across the entire supply chain—from farms and processing units to markets and households.

According to health experts, millions of people around the world fall ill every year due to foodborne diseases caused by contaminated food and unsafe handling practices. These illnesses not only affect public health but also create economic losses by reducing productivity and increasing healthcare costs.

The 2026 theme emphasizes turning scientific knowledge and research into practical solutions that improve food safety in everyday life. The campaign will encourage governments, food producers, traders, and consumers to adopt better hygiene, proper food handling, and stronger monitoring systems.

Under the initiative, global organizations will promote science-based food safety standards, improved surveillance of foodborne illnesses, and stronger regulatory frameworks. Educational programs and awareness campaigns will also be organized in many countries to inform people about safe food practices.

World Food Safety Day is celebrated every year on 7 June to raise awareness about the importance of safe food for public health, sustainable agriculture, and global trade.

Experts believe that strengthening food safety systems will play a key role in protecting consumer health, improving nutrition, and building more resilient food systems worldwide.
