Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan to Visit Chhattisgarh, Engage Directly with Farmers and Review Rural Development Initiatives

Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, will undertake a one-day visit to Chhattisgarh on 31 January 2026, focusing on direct engagement with farmers and reviewing the progress of key agricultural and rural development schemes in the state.

During his visit, Minister Chauhan will hold a high-level review meeting at Mahanadi Bhavan, Naya Raipur, with Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sahay, state ministers, senior officials, and local representatives. The meeting will assess the implementation of central and state programs, including the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural)National Rural Livelihoods Mission, natural and organic farming initiatives, agri-infrastructure projects, credit availability, and digital agriculture solutions.

Minister Chauhan will then travel to Girhola and Khapri in Durg district to participate in field visits and plantation programs, engaging directly with farmers. He will highlight benefits of flagship central schemes such as the PM-Kisan Samman NidhiNational Agriculture Development Program, and Micro Irrigation under PMKSY, encouraging greater farmer participation and adoption of modern agricultural practices.

In the afternoon, he will visit Kumhari, where he will attend a Farmer Fair organized by the Chhattisgarh Youth Progressive Farmers Association. The event will focus on modern farming techniques, crop diversification, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), digital agriculture, and rural livelihood enhancement, providing farmers with practical insights to improve productivity and income.

Throughout the visit, Minister Chauhan will also emphasize government initiatives that empower rural communities, including direct income support to small and marginal farmers, crop insurance under PM Fasal Bima Yojana, digital land records, drone-assisted surveys, and women’s self-help group programs. The visit aims to reinforce the central government’s vision of sustainable rural development, increased farmer incomes, and strengthened village infrastructure across Chhattisgarh and the country.

This one-day visit underscores the government’s commitment to closer interaction with the farming community, strengthening rural livelihoods, and ensuring effective implementation of agricultural and rural development programs at the grassroots level.
