BASF | Nunhems to Acquire Noble Seeds, Bolstering Leadership in India’s Vegetable Seed Market

BASF | Nunhems, through its Indian subsidiary Nunhems India Pvt. Ltd., has announced a formal agreement to acquire Noble Seeds Pvt. Ltd., a leading player in India’s vegetable seed industry. The acquisition is set to strengthen BASF’s vegetable seed business in India, expanding its portfolio to include cauliflower and radish, alongside existing crops such as hot peppers, watermelons, gourds, and tomatoes. The transaction is subject to statutory approvals, expected by the end of Q1 2026, with financial details undisclosed.

Founded in October 2004 and headquartered in New Delhi, Noble Seeds specializes in breeding and supplying hybrids of key vegetable crops, including cauliflower, radish, tomato, hot pepper, watermelon, gourds, okra, and cucumber. With a workforce of 154 employees, the company is among India’s fastest-growing vegetable seed enterprises and a leading supplier of cauliflower hybrids nationwide.

Commenting on the agreement, Lakshmi Narasimhaiah Madenahally, CEO of Noble Seeds, said: “This partnership with BASF | Nunhems initiates a new chapter for our team and customers. By combining BASF’s breeding excellence and innovation capabilities with our strong regional germplasm, market insight, and distribution network, we are building a stronger foundation to serve Indian growers with high-performing vegetable seed solutions.”

For BASF | Nunhems, the acquisition aligns with its strategic vision of sustainable growth, innovation, and enhanced customer value. Maximilian Becker, Senior Vice President of BASF | Nunhems, stated: “This signing marks another milestone in our presence in India’s growing vegetable market. Noble Seeds is the ideal partner to help us become a market leader, strengthening our crop rotation portfolio and expanding our offerings in fruits and vegetables.”

Both companies will operate independently during the integration phase to ensure continuity for farmers and channel partners. A dedicated integration team will oversee the transition, prioritizing transparency and consistency across all business functions.

The acquisition positions BASF | Nunhems to further consolidate its market leadership in India, combining global breeding expertise with strong local knowledge and distribution networks to drive innovation and meet the evolving needs of Indian growers.
