Brazil Sets Record for Agricultural Input Registrations in 2025, Highlighting Market Dynamism

Brazil reached a historic milestone in agricultural input approvals in 2025, recording its highest number of product registrations to date. According to year-end data released by CropData, the data platform of CropLife Brazil, regulators approved 139 new biological products and 560 chemical pesticides, including both technical and formulated products. The figures underscore the growing dynamism of Brazil’s agricultural input market and its capacity to deliver a broad range of solutions to farmers.

The record volume of approvals reflects an active regulatory environment and expanding availability of crop protection tools. However, industry data also indicate that while registration activity surged, the pace of disruptive innovation remained more limited, with most approvals concentrated in generic products rather than novel technologies.

Biological inputs stood out in 2025, driven largely by microbiological products. Of the 139 biological registrations, 121—around 87%—were based on microbiological agents. This growth was supported by the entry of new companies into the market and increased participation by multinational firms expanding their biological portfolios in Brazil. The trend reflects rising farmer adoption of biological solutions, with usage rates in some Brazilian crop systems exceeding global averages.

In the chemical segment, registrations were dominated by generics. While six new technical products with novel molecules and 22 new formulated products were approved, approximately 95% of agrochemical registrations referenced active ingredients already available on the market. Industry representatives note that this pattern mirrors global trends, as the cost and complexity of developing new active ingredients continue to rise, favoring generic competition.

CropLife Brazil highlighted that the key challenge ahead is strengthening conditions for sustained research and development investment. Innovation is critical for managing resistance in pests, diseases, and weeds, while supporting productivity and sustainability gains in Brazilian agriculture.

Beyond registrations, foreign trade indicators also showed strong performance. Agricultural seed exports reached US$233 million between January and November 2025, the highest level in five years, reflecting growing regional demand for Brazilian seed technology adapted to tropical and subtropical environments. Meanwhile, agrochemical imports rose sharply, with volumes increasing 24% year-on-year, driven by expanded cropped area, intensified production systems, and competitive sourcing from international suppliers.

Overall, the 2025 registration record demonstrates Brazil’s regulatory capacity to process high approval volumes across both chemical and biological inputs. While the dominance of generics highlights ongoing innovation challenges, the results confirm Brazil’s position as one of the world’s most dynamic and strategically important agricultural input markets.
