Centre Approves ₹894 Crore MSP Procurement for Telangana Farmers

Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved a major procurement proposal to support farmers in Telangana for the Rabi 2026 season. The decision allows the procurement of more than 1.25 lakh metric tonnes of crops at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), ensuring farmers receive fair remuneration for their produce.

The approval was granted following a proposal submitted by the Telangana government. Under this initiative, the Centre will procure a total of 1,25,855 metric tonnes of crops under the Price Support Scheme. The total procurement approved by the government is valued at over ₹894 crore.

According to official details, the procurement will include several key crops grown by farmers in the state. The government has approved the purchase of 29,860 metric tonnes of gram, 37,020 metric tonnes of urad, 55,285 metric tonnes of groundnut, and 3,690 metric tonnes of sunflower. These crops are important for both the pulses and oilseed sectors, and the move is expected to encourage their cultivation.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that the central government is committed to protecting farmers from market fluctuations and ensuring they receive fair prices for their produce. He emphasized that the procurement approval will help farmers avoid distress selling and secure a stable income for their hard work.

The minister highlighted that the decision will not only ensure remunerative prices for farmers in Telangana but will also encourage increased production of pulses and oilseeds. Boosting domestic production of these crops remains a key priority for the government to strengthen agricultural sustainability and reduce dependence on imports.

Chouhan further noted that the government is continuously working to improve the economic condition of farmers across the country. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several initiatives have been launched to enhance farmers’ income, strengthen the agriculture sector, and boost rural economic growth.

The MSP procurement approval is expected to provide relief and economic security to farmers cultivating gram, urad, groundnut, and sunflower in Telangana. By ensuring assured procurement at MSP, the government aims to create greater stability in the agricultural market while supporting the livelihoods of farming families.

Officials believe that the initiative will contribute to stronger agricultural growth in the state and provide farmers with greater confidence to continue investing in pulses and oilseed cultivation during upcoming seasons.
