A high-level virtual review meeting on the progress of the Pulses Self-Reliance Mission was convened at Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Shri Sanjay Agarwal, Joint Secretary (Extension & Pulses Mission), Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW). Senior agriculture officials from Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh participated in the session, during which an extensive assessment of mission activities and future operational plans was undertaken.
The Joint Secretary underscored the need for timely and accurate data updates on the Krishi Mapper Portal. He emphasized that consistent and authentic data entry is essential for evaluating the mission’s on-ground progress and ensuring evidence-based decision-making. Highlighting the central role of seed availability, he instructed states to reinforce mechanisms for the procurement, distribution, and monitoring of seed kits. States were advised to prepare district-level roadmaps to ensure uninterrupted supply of seed kits to farmers, thereby preventing delays during the sowing season.
The meeting also featured an in-depth discussion on district-wise trends in pulses production, diversification opportunities, and current field-level constraints. Officials noted that local agro-climatic conditions, adoption of scientific farming techniques, availability of high-quality seeds, and enhanced farmer awareness are critical determinants of the mission’s success. Both states shared updates on ongoing interventions and identified areas requiring additional technical support.
Consensus emerged on strengthening inter-state coordination to make the Pulses Self-Reliance Mission more impactful at the grassroots level. The Centre assured participating states of continued technical assistance, capacity-building support, and resource facilitation.
Officials expressed confidence that with improved coordination, robust field-level strategies, and timely implementation, the mission will achieve its targets within the planned timeframe. They affirmed that the concerted efforts of the Centre and states will significantly contribute to making India self-reliant in pulses production, ultimately enhancing food security and boosting farmer incomes across the country.
