India–Brazil Agricultural Cooperation Gains Momentum; Union Agriculture Minister Holds Bilateral Talks

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a bilateral meeting at Krishi Bhavan with Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Carlos Fávaro and Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture Luiz Paulo Teixeira Ferreira. The discussions reviewed ongoing cooperation and explored new avenues for collaboration across agriculture and allied sectors.

The Minister highlighted the deep-rooted and friendly ties between India and Brazil, founded on shared democratic values and strategic convergence. He referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Brazil during the BRICS Summit 2025 as a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral engagement.

Appreciating Brazil’s participation in the AI Impact Summit, the Minister emphasized expanding cooperation in emerging agricultural technologies, digital innovation, precision farming, and data-driven decision-making systems. He noted that technology partnerships will play a pivotal role in improving productivity, climate resilience, and value-chain efficiency.

Minister Luiz Paulo Teixeira Ferreira underscored the importance of enhanced bilateral engagement in agriculture and allied domains, identifying multiple areas where joint initiatives could yield mutual benefits. Minister Carlos Fávaro praised India’s advancements in bio-inputs and sustainable agriculture solutions, describing them as promising areas for future collaboration.

Key themes of discussion included crop production systems, livestock development, bio-fertilizers, sustainable farming practices, agricultural trade, and research partnerships. Both sides expressed intent to deepen cooperation in agricultural research, technology transfer mechanisms, and improved market access frameworks.

The Union Minister also extended an invitation to the Brazilian delegation to participate in the upcoming BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting, reinforcing multilateral agricultural cooperation.

Senior officials from India’s Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare (DA&FW), Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) were present during the meeting alongside the Brazilian delegation.

The engagement marks a strategic step toward strengthening India–Brazil agricultural partnership, with long-term prospects for enhanced productivity, innovation exchange, and sustainable agricultural development in both countries.
