Uttar Pradesh Embraces Modern Technology to Transform Agriculture

In a bold move to modernize its agricultural landscape, Uttar Pradesh has launched a series of innovative initiatives to integrate cutting-edge technologies into farming practices, aiming to boost productivity, reduce input costs, and ensure better income for farmers.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath, the state government is leveraging digital platforms, precision agriculture, and smart irrigation solutions to make farming more efficient, sustainable, and climate-resilient.

Key Technological Interventions:

  • Drone Technology: For spraying fertilizers and pesticides uniformly and efficiently, reducing chemical use by up to 30%.
  • Soil Health Mapping: Digital soil cards and real-time testing devices are helping farmers apply nutrients accurately, improving soil fertility.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning: Used for pest prediction, crop monitoring, and personalized advisories through mobile apps.
  • e-Mandi Platforms: To ensure transparent and direct market linkages, helping farmers get fair prices for their produce.
  • Weather-Based Crop Advisory Services: Through partnerships with meteorological agencies and agri-tech firms, farmers now receive real-time alerts.

Infrastructure and Policy Support:

The state is also building robust cold chain and warehousing infrastructure, promoting solar-powered irrigation, and expanding access to subsidized farm machinery. As part of the Digital Krishi Uttar Pradesh Mission, thousands of farmers are being trained in modern agri-tech practices.

Farmer-Centric Growth

CM Yogi Adityanath has repeatedly emphasized that “technology must empower the farmer at the grassroots”, and the current reforms reflect this vision. With support from the Department of Agriculture, UP, along with Krishi Vigyan Kendras and private partners, lakhs of farmers are now connected to digital platforms that offer advisory services, market intelligence, and input delivery.

A Model for Other States

Experts say that Uttar Pradesh’s tech-driven approach is setting a new benchmark for agricultural transformation in India. The success of tech integration is already visible in districts like Barabanki, Gorakhpur, and Varanasi, where yield improvements of 20–30% have been recorded in crops like paddy, wheat, and vegetables.
