Union Agriculture Minister Launches e-FARMS: A Milestone in Digital Fertilizer Advisory for Sustainable Agriculture

On the auspicious occasion of ICAR Foundation Day, the Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, officially launched e-FARMS (Fertilizer Advisory and Resource Management System), a groundbreaking digital initiative developed by Dr. Nishant K Sinha and team at the ICAR–Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal.

e-FARMS is a data-driven, precision agriculture platform that provides real-time, location-specific, and crop-targeted fertilizer recommendations. By integrating digital soil maps with productivity targets, the platform empowers farmers with customized nutrient management solutions ultimately enhancing soil health, reducing environmental degradation, and increasing input-use efficiency.

Precision Nutrient Management at Farmers’ Fingertips

This innovative tool marks a significant leap forward in precision nutrient management, aiming to ensure balanced fertilization, minimize nutrient losses, and support sustainable agricultural practices across diverse agro-climatic regions.

Speaking at the launch, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan lauded the efforts of the ICAR scientists and emphasized the importance of adopting technology-driven solutions to achieve climate-resilient and productivity-enhancing agriculture.
“e-FARMS will play a vital role in guiding farmers towards scientific fertilizer use while improving farm profitability and soil sustainability,” he said.

Developed by ICAR–IISS, Bhopal

The platform has been conceptualized and developed under the leadership of Dr. Nishant K Sinha, supported by a team of scientists at ICAR–Indian Institute of Soil Science. Built on robust data analytics and user-friendly design, e-FARMS bridges the gap between scientific research and field-level application.

It is expected to contribute significantly to India’s national goals of doubling farmers’ income, ensuring food security, and restoring soil fertility.

A Digital Leap Towards Atmanirbhar Krishi

The launch of e-FARMS aligns with the government’s vision of Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, where farmers are empowered through smart tools and timely advisories.

As India navigates toward a more sustainable and resilient agricultural future, e-FARMS stands as a beacon of innovation, demonstrating how science and technology can revolutionize farm-level decision-making.
