IARI Delhi and Haryana’s NDRI Top NIRF Agriculture Rankings 2025

Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, and the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, Haryana, at the top of its agriculture and allied sectors rankings. The announcement was made today by the Ministry of Education, highlighting the institutes’ contributions to agricultural research, innovation, and education.

IARI, popularly known as the Pusa Institute, secured the first position for its pioneering work in crop improvement, sustainable farming practices, and advanced agri-technologies. Over the years, IARI has been instrumental in developing high-yielding crop varieties, climate-resilient farming methods, and farmer-centric innovations.

The National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), which ranked second, continues to be a leader in dairy science and livestock research. NDRI’s contributions in the field of animal genetics, nutrition, and dairy technology have played a vital role in strengthening India’s dairy sector, which remains the largest in the world.

The NIRF rankings evaluate institutions based on several parameters, including teaching and learning resources, research output, graduation outcomes, outreach, and perception. Officials noted that this year’s rankings also placed greater emphasis on research impact and industry collaboration.

Education experts say that the strong performance of IARI and NDRI reflects India’s growing capacity in agricultural research and innovation, which is essential for meeting future challenges of food security, climate change, and rural development.

The Ministry of Education congratulated the top institutions and encouraged them to continue their efforts in strengthening India’s agricultural education and research ecosystem.
