Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two ambitious agriculture schemes — the “Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana” and the “Dalhan Atmanirbhar Mission” — at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute. The schemes, aimed at enhancing farmer welfare and strengthening India’s self-reliance in agriculture, will receive a total investment of over ₹35,000 crore.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said that these initiatives are dedicated to the welfare of farmers and the economically weaker sections, and are expected to transform the lives of millions of Indian farmers.
Focus on Farmer Welfare and Self-Reliance
The “Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana” is designed to boost crop income and improve productivity, while the “Dalhan Atmanirbhar Mission” focuses on pulses and oilseeds, aiming to increase domestic production and reduce dependency on imports.
The Prime Minister emphasized that these schemes are rooted in extensive ground-level consultations with farmers, fisherfolk, and women working in agriculture. He stated that the new programs are a direct result of understanding farmers’ needs and addressing challenges in the field, with a focus on enhancing income, strengthening food security, and promoting sustainable farming practices.
Achievements in Agriculture Over the Past 11 Years
PM Modi also highlighted the progress made in Indian agriculture during his tenure:
- Agricultural exports have nearly doubled.
- Cereal production has increased by approximately 90 million metric tonnes.
- Fruit and vegetable production has grown by over 60 million metric tonnes.
- India has become the world’s largest milk producer and the second-largest fish producer.
- Honey and egg production have doubled.
- Six new major fertilizer plants have been established.
- Over 25 crore Soil Health Cards have been distributed to farmers.
- Micro-irrigation facilities now cover 100 lakh hectares.
- Farmers have received nearly ₹2 lakh crore under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
- More than 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) have been formed.
Continuous Improvement and Farmer-Centric Policies
PM Modi stressed that while these achievements are significant, India must continue improving across all sectors to achieve its vision of a developed nation. He underscored that the new schemes reflect a commitment to enhancing farmer incomes, ensuring food security, and promoting self-reliance in agriculture.
The launch of these two major programs marks another step in the government’s ongoing efforts to transform Indian agriculture through policy innovation, technology adoption, and farmer empowerment.
