Yangnong Chemical Secures First Registration for Tetrachlorantraniliprole Mixture in China

China’s pesticide portfolio has reached an important milestone with the registration of the country’s first mixture product based on tetrachlorantraniliprole, a proprietary insecticide developed by Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical Co., Ltd. The approval was recently announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs as part of a new batch of pesticide registrations.

The newly registered product, tetrachlorantraniliprole + indoxacarb 20% SC, was granted to Yangnong Chemical’s subsidiary, Shenyang Sciencreat Chemicals. The formulation is approved for the control of cabbage beet armyworm and represents the first fully registered mixture product built around tetrachlorantraniliprole since the single-agent product entered the market in 2017.

Tetrachlorantraniliprole belongs to the bisamide class of insecticides and shares the same mode of action as chlorantraniliprole, acting as a ryanodine receptor allosteric modulator. It is known for its ultra-high activity against lepidopteran pests, offering fast knockdown and long-lasting control. The compound is widely used against pests such as rice stem borer, rice leaf roller, diamondback moth, and cabbage caterpillar.

Indoxacarb, the second active ingredient in the mixture, is an oxadiazine insecticide that targets sodium ion channels in the insect nervous system. By combining two active ingredients with different modes of action, the new formulation enhances pest control efficacy while helping to delay the development of insect resistance. This approach aligns with China’s broader strategy of reducing pesticide use while improving control efficiency.

The development of mixture products has become a key strategy for extending the commercial life cycle of innovative active ingredients. Yangnong Chemical began exploring tetrachlorantraniliprole mixtures as early as 2021, launching a tank-mix product combining tetrachlorantraniliprole with emamectin benzoate for rice pest control.

Tetrachlorantraniliprole, also known by its experimental code name SYP-9080, is China’s first bisamide insecticide with independent intellectual property rights. The compound received ISO approval for its common name in 2018, obtained temporary registration in China in 2013, and achieved full registration in 2017. Since its launch, market performance has steadily grown, reflecting strong demand for innovative pest control solutions.

Industry sources indicate that many Chinese manufacturers are actively developing patented tetrachlorantraniliprole mixtures, highlighting the compound’s strategic importance in modern crop protection.
