Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, met Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Monday to discuss key issues related to agriculture and rural development ahead of the Union Budget 2026–27.
During the meeting, Shri Chouhan submitted a comprehensive report containing suggestions and policy inputs gathered through extensive pre-Budget consultations. Over the past few weeks, the Union Minister undertook visits to several states and also held detailed interactions in Delhi with progressive farmers, agricultural experts, women self-help groups, cooperative institutions, rural industry representatives, and senior officials of national-level organisations associated with both ministries.
The discussions focused on ground-level challenges, emerging opportunities, and long-term strategies for strengthening agriculture, enhancing rural livelihoods, and promoting inclusive rural growth. The inputs received from various stakeholders were consolidated into a structured set of recommendations aimed at supporting holistic agricultural and rural development, which were formally presented to the Finance Minister.
Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Union Government is continuously working towards building a self-reliant and prosperous rural India. He expressed confidence that the forthcoming Union Budget would reflect the aspirations of farmers and rural communities across the country.
The Union Minister further noted that the Union Budget for the financial year 2026–27 would play a decisive role in advancing the Prime Minister’s vision of “Prosperous Farmers and Empowered Villages.” He expressed optimism that the Budget would serve as a significant milestone in accelerating agricultural growth, strengthening rural infrastructure, and improving the socio-economic conditions of rural India.
