India Named “Country of the Year” at BIOFACH 2026, Showcasing Strength in Global Organic Agriculture

India has been honored as the “Country of the Year” at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s largest organic trade fair held annually in Germany. The recognition places India’s expanding organic agriculture sector in the global spotlight, highlighting its growing influence in sustainable farming, certified organic production, and international trade.

BIOFACH serves as a premier platform for organic producers, exporters, policymakers, and buyers from around the world. India’s designation as the featured country underscores its position as one of the leading suppliers of organic products globally. With millions of hectares under organic cultivation and a vast network of certified farmers, India has emerged as a key player in the international organic value chain.

At the 2026 edition of the trade fair, India is presenting a diverse portfolio of organic products sourced from multiple states. The showcase includes organic cereals, pulses, spices, tea, coffee, oilseeds, fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants, and processed organic foods. States known for specialized organic clusters are highlighting region-specific products, reflecting India’s agro-climatic diversity and traditional farming practices.

The recognition also aligns with India’s sustained policy support for organic farming through initiatives promoting certification, farmer training, cluster-based production, and export facilitation. Programs encouraging natural and chemical-free cultivation have contributed to increased global acceptance of Indian organic produce, particularly in European and North American markets.

Industry observers note that consumer demand for traceable, sustainably produced food continues to rise worldwide. India’s participation as “Country of the Year” provides an opportunity to strengthen trade partnerships, attract new buyers, and reinforce compliance with stringent international organic standards.

Beyond trade, the platform enables knowledge exchange on sustainability, soil health management, climate-resilient farming, and value-chain development. Indian delegates are expected to engage in discussions on certification harmonization, market access, and innovation in organic processing.

Being named “Country of the Year” at BIOFACH 2026 reflects growing international confidence in India’s organic sector. The recognition not only enhances the country’s brand value in global markets but also reinforces its long-term commitment to environmentally sustainable agriculture and rural livelihood development.
