India Plans Stricter Seed and Pesticide Rules Following Farmer Feedback

In response to widespread concerns raised during the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan campaign, the Government of India is preparing to introduce tighter regulations on seeds and pesticides. The move comes after farmers across various states highlighted issues related to the quality, authenticity, and availability of agricultural inputs.

The campaign, which aims to strengthen India’s agricultural sector and boost productivity, served as a platform for farmers to voice challenges they face at the grassroots level. Among the most pressing concerns were the sale of substandard seeds, the misuse of pesticides, and the need for improved input monitoring.

Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture have indicated that a revised policy framework is being developed to ensure better oversight of seed certification processes and stricter control over the sale and use of agrochemicals. This may include digital tracking systems, mandatory quality checks, and tougher penalties for violations.

The government is also considering enhancing support for farmers through improved extension services, awareness campaigns on the safe use of inputs, and promoting the use of certified and eco-friendly products.
