DAHD Celebrates International Yoga Day 2025 with ‘One Earth, One Health’ Theme, Showcasing Ethnoveterinary Traditions and Green Initiatives

In line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of integrating yoga into daily life, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025 with the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” at multiple locations across the country.

Major celebrations were held at four iconic sites in Gujarat Dwarka, Somnath, Hazira (Vadodara), and the Statue of Unity where mass yoga sessions were organized. These events underscored the government’s focus on holistic wellness, sustainability, and community involvement.

At Patna, Union Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh led a yoga session at the Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library, inspiring citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles through yoga. Meanwhile, Minister of State Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel conducted a session at Agra Fort, stressing yoga’s role as a cultural and spiritual practice that balances mind, body, and spirit. He lauded Prime Minister Modi’s efforts in bringing yoga to the global stage, which led to the UN’s recognition of June 21 as International Yoga Day, celebrated by over 177 countries. In Thiruvananthapuram, Minister of State Shri George Kurian participated in the celebrations, spreading the message of health and harmony.

The Vadodara event saw enthusiastic participation from over 1,200 individuals, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush, Government of Gujarat, Indian Yoga Association, and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri C.R. Patil, as the Chief Guest, highlighted yoga’s contribution to both human and ecological well-being. A special attraction was the NDDB’s exhibition on ethnoveterinary practices and Ayurvedic livestock products, showcasing India’s traditional knowledge in sustainable animal care.

In New Delhi, a yoga session was held at Krishi Bhawan, attended by Smt. Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary (DAHD), and Shri Abhilaksh Likhi, Secretary (Department of Fisheries), along with ministry officials. The event included a Common Yoga Protocol session and live telecast of Prime Minister Modi’s address from Visakhapatnam, which energized participants nationwide.

Field offices and regional units of DAHD also celebrated IDY 2025 with equal enthusiasm. Notably, 8,000 Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS) and over 1.38 lakh farmers participated in Yoga Sangam events across India. In a powerful message of environmental responsibility, more than 12,000 saplings were planted.

These events reaffirmed DAHD’s commitment to the One Health approach, emphasizing the interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health through the integration of yoga, tradition, and sustainability.
