Tanzania Hosts Global Nutrition Policy Summit

Tanzania has emerged as a regional leader in nutrition reform by hosting a global summit focused on transforming food systems and nutrition policies. The high-level event, supported by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), gathered policymakers, development partners, and civil society to accelerate access to safe, affordable, and nutritious food.

At the center of the summit was the launch of the “Nourishing Food Pathways” initiative—a five-year program aimed at integrating nutrition into national planning and investment strategies. This marks a major step in implementing Tanzania’s commitments made at the UN Food Systems Summit, with a renewed focus on climate-resilient, inclusive, and nutrition-sensitive food systems.

Stakeholders discussed ways to embed nutrition across sectors, promote local food solutions, and attract private-sector investment to scale up nutrition services. The government also reaffirmed its goals to strengthen food safety laws, empower local leadership, and operationalize a multi-sectoral advisory body.

With malnutrition still a pressing challenge in many African nations, Tanzania’s leadership is being hailed as a model for others. Officials believe this summit sets the foundation for long-term, systemic change in how countries prioritize public health through food and agriculture.

Stay tuned for more as the Nourishing Food Pathways initiative unfolds and Tanzania’s efforts inspire global momentum toward ending hunger and malnutrition.
