EDII, NABARD Set Up GI Facilitation Centre for Gujarat

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), in collaboration with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), has established a Geographical Indication (GI) Facilitation Centre in Gujarat. The centre aims to protect and promote the state’s unique traditional products, while supporting artisans, farmers, and small entrepreneurs.

Officials stated that the centre will assist producer groups and cooperatives in the process of obtaining GI tags, which certify the origin and authenticity of products linked to a specific region. Gujarat is known for a variety of traditional crafts, agricultural products, and handlooms, many of which hold significant cultural and economic value.

Through this initiative, local communities will gain support in branding, marketing, and legal protection of their products. This will help them fetch better prices, expand to new markets, and strengthen rural livelihoods.

The facilitation centre will also provide awareness programs, training workshops, and guidance on quality standards to ensure that registered GI products maintain their reputation and competitiveness in domestic and international markets.

Experts believe that this step will not only preserve Gujarat’s rich heritage but also create new opportunities for inclusive growth by connecting traditional producers with modern value chains.
