
In a major step toward advancing agricultural innovation, a high-level meeting was held today between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral collaboration in key areas of agricultural research and development.
The session was co-chaired by Dr. Mangi Lal Jat, Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General of ICAR, along with Dr. Yvonne Pinto, Director General of IRRI. Senior officials from both institutions also participated in the discussions.
During the meeting, both sides deliberated on expanding cooperation in fields such as rice research, climate-resilient agriculture, capacity building, and technology dissemination. They agreed on launching joint research programs, facilitating scientific expertise exchange, and promoting innovative agricultural technologies that directly benefit farmers.
Dr. Jat emphasized the importance of leveraging scientific partnerships to enhance food and nutritional security in India, while Dr. Pinto reiterated IRRI’s commitment to working closely with Indian research institutions for the sustainable development of rice-based farming systems.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen institutional collaboration and align research priorities with India’s national goals for food security, sustainability, and rural prosperity.
This initiative marks a new chapter in India–IRRI cooperation, reinforcing their joint vision of promoting agricultural innovation, resilience, and farmer-centric development across Asia and beyond.
