The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has formally approved “fentiazoluron” as the official common name for a new insecticide developed by Corteva Agriscience, marking a key step in its global regulatory and commercial recognition within the crop protection sector.
With this approval, fentiazoluron is now standardized for universal use in scientific literature, regulatory filings, manufacturing, and international trade. The designation helps ensure clarity and consistency across global markets, where chemical substances often carry multiple technical identifiers before receiving an ISO-recognized name.
Fentiazoluron belongs to a new class of insecticidal chemistry aimed at improving control of economically significant crop pests. While detailed mode-of-action information will be disclosed through subsequent regulatory documents and product labels, the compound is expected to support integrated pest management systems by offering enhanced efficacy and a potentially favorable environmental profile compared to older chemistries.
ISO’s approval of common names is considered an essential milestone for new active ingredients, as it enables smoother coordination between crop protection companies, regulatory agencies, researchers, and downstream users such as distributors and farmers. It also reduces ambiguity in international communication, particularly when products are registered in multiple countries.
Corteva’s development of fentiazoluron reflects the industry’s broader push toward innovative, targeted, and more sustainable pest management tools, driven by evolving regulatory requirements and the need to protect crop yields amid increasing pest pressures.
The adoption of the name “fentiazoluron” now clears the path for regulatory review processes in global markets, after which Corteva is expected to announce specific product formulations and target crops.
