In a major step toward modernising its agricultural ecosystem, the Government of Maharashtra has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on smart agriculture collaboration at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. The agreement reflects the state’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies and global partnerships to enhance farm productivity, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
The MoU focuses on the deployment of smart agriculture solutions, including precision farming tools, data-driven crop management systems, and digital platforms that support informed decision-making at the farm level. It also opens avenues for collaboration with global agritech companies, research institutions, and technology providers to accelerate innovation across Maharashtra’s agriculture sector.
Officials indicated that the partnership aims to integrate digital farming solutions such as remote sensing, soil and crop health monitoring, weather-based advisories, and efficient water and nutrient management systems. These interventions are expected to help farmers optimise input use, reduce production risks, and improve overall yields while addressing environmental concerns.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the WEF annual meeting, underscoring Maharashtra’s efforts to attract international investment and expertise in agriculture and allied sectors. With climate variability, resource constraints, and rising input costs posing challenges to farmers, smart agriculture is increasingly seen as a critical pathway for building resilience and ensuring sustainable growth.
Experts believe that such collaborations can play a transformative role in strengthening agricultural value chains, improving farmer incomes, and promoting climate-smart practices. The MoU at Davos positions Maharashtra as a proactive state embracing digital and technology-led solutions to shape the future of agriculture in India.
