Muhammad Ibrahim Appointed Director General of IICA

Muhammad Ibrahim of Guyana has been appointed as the new Director General of the Inter‑American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). In his new role, Ibrahim will lead efforts to strengthen agriculture’s contribution to food security, sustainable development, and rural prosperity across the Americas.

IICA, a regional organization dedicated to agricultural cooperation, works with member countries to promote innovation, improve productivity, and address challenges such as climate change and market access. As DG, Ibrahim will focus on fostering partnerships, supporting capacity-building programs, and advancing policies that enhance resilience and sustainability in the agricultural sector.

Officials highlight that Ibrahim’s appointment comes at a critical time when the Americas face increasing pressures from global food demand, supply chain disruptions, and environmental challenges. His leadership is expected to reinforce IICA’s mission of promoting inclusive agricultural growth and ensuring food security for millions of people across the hemisphere.
