The College of Agriculture at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) recently organized its 61st Alumni Meet amid enthusiasm, nostalgia, and celebration. The event brought together distinguished alumni from across India and abroad, reaffirming the institution’s enduring legacy in agricultural education and research.
Nearly 75 alumni from the 1976 batch marked their Golden Jubilee (50 years), while around 50 alumni from the 1986 batch celebrated their Ruby Jubilee (40 years). Graduates traveled from countries including Canada, Nepal, Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom to reconnect with their alma mater. The gathering provided an opportunity to relive student life memories, interact with faculty members, and revisit hostels and major agricultural farms in Punjab after the formal function.
The chief guest on the occasion was Dr. S.S. Johl, former Vice-Chancellor of PAU and former Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab. He was joined by Dr. Kirpal Singh Aulakh, former Vice-Chancellor of PAU, and the current Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal.
Dr. Johl reflected on the early years of the university and highlighted the dedication and vision of its founding scientists and administrators. He emphasized PAU’s historic contribution in steering India from food insecurity to food security, particularly during the Green Revolution era. Acknowledging the resilience and hard work of Punjab’s farmers, he urged present and future scientists to uphold and advance this rich legacy.
Dr. Aulakh noted that alumni of this prestigious institution have established themselves at state, national, and international levels. Recalling the contributions of agricultural stalwarts associated with PAU, he extended his best wishes to the current scientific community for continued excellence.
Dr. Gosal underscored that the past serves as inspiration for the present, and that tradition must be harmonized with innovation. He expressed pride in PAU securing the top national ranking in agriculture under NIRF for three consecutive years (2023–2025). He also sought the continued guidance and blessings of senior agricultural experts to further strengthen the university’s academic and research leadership.
The event featured poetic recitations by Dr. Gulzar Singh, Dr. Ranjit Singh, and Dr. S.S. Gill, celebrating the university’s achievements. Dean, College of Agriculture, Dr. C.S. Aulakh welcomed the guests and shared updates on ongoing research focused on climate-smart agriculture, water conservation, and technology-driven crop varieties.
Former Deans, national award-winning alumni, distinguished professionals, and outstanding extension workers were honored during the ceremony. Cultural performances, particularly Bhangra, added vibrancy to the celebration.
Four coffee table books documenting 60 years of PAU’s achievements were distributed, highlighting the Green Revolution and the strong bond between farmers and scientists. The ‘AGALUMNUS’ magazine and a commemorative souvenir published by the 1976 batch were also released.
The 61st Alumni Meet stood not only as a celebration of cherished memories but also as a testament to PAU’s sustained commitment to advancing agricultural education, research, and farmer-centric development.
