The Pusa Krishi Incubator at ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR–IARI) has been honoured with the National Intellectual Property Award 2025 in the category of “Best Incubator for Nurturing IP.” The award recognises the institute’s outstanding role in promoting innovation, supporting agricultural start-ups and strengthening the protection and commercialisation of intellectual property in the agriculture sector.
The award was presented on March 9, 2026, during a ceremony held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi by Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal. The recognition highlights the incubator’s contribution to nurturing innovative ideas, technologies and entrepreneurial ventures emerging from agricultural research.
The National Intellectual Property Awards are presented annually to institutions, organisations and individuals that demonstrate excellence in the creation, protection, management and commercialisation of intellectual property in India. These awards are organised by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM), which functions under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the Government of India.
Expressing his satisfaction over the achievement, Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director of ICAR–IARI, said that the institute remains committed to supporting innovators, scientists and entrepreneurs working in the agriculture sector. He emphasised that strengthening innovation ecosystems and promoting intellectual property protection are essential for advancing scientific research and delivering technology-driven solutions for Indian agriculture.
The Pusa Krishi Incubator plays an important role in supporting agricultural start-ups by providing incubation services, mentoring, technical guidance and assistance related to intellectual property rights. It also facilitates collaboration between researchers, industry stakeholders and entrepreneurs, helping translate scientific innovations developed in research institutions into practical products, technologies and services.
Through these initiatives, the incubator contributes to bridging the gap between agricultural research and market-ready solutions. By promoting innovation-led entrepreneurship, it helps create new opportunities for farmers, agribusinesses and rural enterprises.
The recognition further underlines the growing role of ICAR–IARI in building a strong innovation-driven ecosystem for Indian agriculture, supporting start-ups and accelerating the adoption of modern technologies that can contribute to the growth and sustainability of the country’s agricultural economy.
