Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, chaired a high-level meeting at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, to review the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and guide the implementation of upcoming action plans. The meeting was attended by Rural Development Secretary Shri Shailesh Singh and other senior officials.
Officials presented a detailed state-wise update on PMGSY, noting that while work in some hilly and disaster-affected areas experienced temporary delays due to natural calamities, implementation in other regions is progressing smoothly. Special attention was given to northeastern states and Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas, including Chhattisgarh. Shri Chouhan directed officials to intensify efforts in these regions and announced that he will chair a dedicated review meeting in the Northeast, involving Chief Ministers and state representatives, to ensure timely and effective implementation of PMGSY, MGNREGA, Skill Development, and the National Rural Livelihood Mission.
The meeting also discussed plans to mark the 25th anniversary of PMGSY in December 2025 with nationwide celebrations. Shri Chouhan described the scheme as a historic initiative that has transformed the face and future of rural India. “This scheme has changed both the condition and direction of our villages. Completing 25 years is a remarkable achievement,” he said. Officials were directed to prepare and release a comprehensive report highlighting PMGSY’s achievements over the past 25 years.
Shri Chouhan urged officials to accelerate ongoing projects, address any challenges promptly, and ensure coordination with state governments. He emphasised that all road construction projects must meet high-quality standards and be completed within stipulated timelines to provide durable infrastructure that supports inclusive rural development.
The meeting highlighted the critical role of road connectivity in promoting rural growth, economic development, and security in LWE-affected areas, reinforcing PMGSY’s impact on transforming rural India.
