Haryana Explores Trade and Agricultural Cooperation with Tanzania to Expand Global Opportunities for Farmers

The Haryana government has initiated steps to strengthen trade and agricultural cooperation with Tanzania, aiming to create new income opportunities for farmers and expand the state’s international engagement in agriculture, machinery, and allied sectors.

A high-level meeting was held in Chandigarh on Tuesday to assess the scope for collaboration with Tanzania, with a particular focus on enhancing farmers’ income through overseas agricultural activities and investments. The discussions brought together government officials, traders, and progressive farmers to examine practical opportunities and challenges associated with agricultural cooperation in the African nation.

The meeting was chaired by Amneet P. Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Haryana Foreign Cooperation and Civil Aviation Department. Pawan Choudhary, Advisor to the Chief Minister for the Foreign Cooperation Department, also participated in the deliberations.

Key areas of discussion included the demand for agricultural machinery in Tanzania, identification of crops suitable for different agro-climatic regions, and prospects in horticulture and pulse cultivation. Participants also examined critical infrastructure aspects such as the availability of irrigation water and power supply, which are essential for sustainable agricultural operations.

In addition to agriculture, traders associated with the mining sector raised sector-specific queries, highlighting the broader scope of economic engagement between Haryana and Tanzania. Officials addressed these concerns and emphasised the government’s commitment to facilitating informed decision-making for businesses and farmers interested in international ventures.

Chairing the meeting, Kumar assured participants that the Haryana government is adopting a structured, transparent, and practical approach to promoting global cooperation. He noted that providing timely and accurate information on investment conditions, regulatory requirements, and market potential in Tanzania would be a priority to enable informed participation by farmers and traders.

The government also decided to assign clear responsibilities to relevant departments and officers for conducting surveys, field assessments, and feasibility studies in Tanzania. These efforts will help identify viable opportunities and support the formulation of a well-defined action plan for future engagement.

According to officials, coordinated efforts at the government level will be ensured to provide necessary institutional support to farmers and traders, positioning Haryana to benefit from emerging international agricultural and trade partnerships while expanding its global footprint in agri-business and allied sectors.
