Odisha Launches ₹141.50 Crore Drought Resilience Agriculture Programme

The Odisha government has launched a comprehensive Agriculture Drought Mitigation Programme worth ₹141.50 crore, aimed at strengthening farmer resilience to water scarcity and climate-related challenges. The initiative focuses on improving irrigation infrastructure and promoting climate-adaptive farming practices across the state.

Under the programme, farmers will benefit from upgraded water management systems, including micro-irrigation, rainwater harvesting, and efficient canal networks. The initiative also emphasizes the adoption of drought-resistant crop varieties and modern farming techniques to sustain agricultural productivity under increasingly erratic weather conditions.

“The Agriculture Drought Mitigation Programme is a significant step towards ensuring food security and sustainable livelihoods for our farming communities,” said an official from the Odisha Department of Agriculture. “By combining improved irrigation with climate-smart farming, we aim to reduce vulnerability and empower farmers to cope with water scarcity challenges.”

The programme aligns with Odisha’s broader strategy to enhance agricultural resilience, support rural livelihoods, and promote sustainable land and water management. It is expected to benefit thousands of farmers, particularly in drought-prone districts, while contributing to long-term agricultural sustainability and economic stability in the region.
