The Union Budget 2026 places strong emphasis on inclusive and long-term growth, with a clear focus on strengthening the rural economy, according to V. J. Ram Nakra, Chairman of the Agriculture Committee at industry body FICCI and President of the Farm Equipment Business at Mahindra & Mahindra Limited.
Nakra stated that the budget ensures continuity in structural reforms and presents a well-defined roadmap to steer India towards stable and resilient economic growth. Aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the budget prioritises rural empowerment as a key driver of national development.
He highlighted that special attention has been given to promoting high-value crops, expanding allied sectors such as animal husbandry, textiles, and tourism, and strengthening rural infrastructure and technological support. These measures, he noted, will play a crucial role in enhancing farm incomes, improving productivity, and creating diversified livelihood opportunities in rural areas.
Nakra further pointed out that initiatives such as the expansion of Bharat Extension, scaling up skill development programmes, the launch of ‘She-Marts’, and the establishment of hostels for girls in every taluka are significant steps towards ensuring broader participation in economic growth. These initiatives are expected to generate employment, promote entrepreneurship, and empower women and youth by enabling greater access to education, skills, and markets.
On the industrial front, he said that the push to expand the manufacturing sector and the launch of ISM 2.0 will further strengthen India’s self-reliance in manufacturing. According to him, the budget successfully strikes a balance between industry, agriculture, and rural development, thereby accelerating the country’s overall growth momentum.
Overall, V. J. Ram Nakra described the Union Budget 2026 as a forward-looking and inclusive budget that lays a strong foundation for rural empowerment, balanced development, and long-term economic stability.
