IFAD Calls for Digital Content Coordinator Consultant to Strengthen Global Outreach

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has issued an open call for expressions of interest for a Digital Content Coordinator Consultant, highlighting the organisation’s growing emphasis on digital communication as a strategic tool in global agricultural and rural development.

The consultancy reflects IFAD’s recognition that effective digital storytelling and content management are increasingly critical to advancing development goals. As a specialised United Nations agency focused on eradicating rural poverty and improving food security, IFAD works with governments, farmers’ organisations, and development partners across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Strengthening digital outreach is seen as essential for communicating impact, mobilising partnerships, and engaging diverse global audiences.

According to the call, the Digital Content Coordinator Consultant will play a central role in planning, producing, and managing digital content across multiple platforms. This includes supporting IFAD’s websites, social media channels, campaigns, and multimedia outputs to ensure consistent messaging aligned with institutional priorities. The role is also expected to contribute to editorial planning, content calendars, and coordination with internal teams and external contributors.

The move comes as international development institutions increasingly shift towards digital-first communication strategies. With stakeholders ranging from policymakers and donors to farmers, civil society organisations, and youth, digital platforms offer a scalable way to share knowledge, policy insights, and field-level success stories. IFAD has been expanding its use of data-driven communication, visual storytelling, and social media engagement to highlight the voices of smallholder farmers and rural communities.

Experts note that digital communication has become particularly important in the agriculture and development space, where complex issues such as climate change, food systems transformation, and rural livelihoods require clear, accessible, and compelling narratives. Coordinated digital content helps bridge the gap between technical work on the ground and global policy discussions.

The consultancy opportunity also reflects a broader trend within the UN system and multilateral development banks to invest in specialised communication skills. Digital coordinators are increasingly seen as strategic assets rather than support functions, helping institutions improve transparency, visibility, and public engagement.

By inviting applications for this role, IFAD signals its intent to further professionalise and expand its digital communication capacity. The appointment is expected to support the organisation’s long-term objective of amplifying development impact, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and ensuring that lessons from rural development programmes reach a global audience effectively.
