India is set to host a major international event focused on women’s role in agriculture and food systems. The Global Conference on Women in Agri-Food Systems (GCWAS-2026) will be held in New Delhi from 12–14 March 2026, bringing together policymakers, researchers, farmers, and global development organizations.
The conference will focus on gender equality, innovation, and leadership in agriculture, highlighting the important role women play in strengthening food systems and improving rural livelihoods.
The event is being organized in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization and supported by the Government of India. Experts and representatives from several countries are expected to participate in discussions on empowering women farmers and promoting inclusive agricultural development.
A key objective of GCWAS-2026 is to explore ways to improve women’s access to land, finance, agricultural technology, training, and leadership opportunities. Despite contributing significantly to farming activities, women in many countries still face barriers in accessing resources and decision-making roles in the agricultural sector.
The conference will also highlight innovative solutions in agri-food systems, including climate-smart agriculture, digital farming technologies, and women-led agricultural enterprises. These innovations are expected to play a crucial role in improving productivity and building climate-resilient farming communities.
In addition, the event will provide a platform for sharing best practices, research findings, and successful models that support women’s participation in agriculture and rural development.
Experts believe that strengthening the role of women in agriculture is essential for achieving global food security, sustainable development, and climate resilience. The conference in New Delhi is expected to generate important policy discussions and partnerships aimed at empowering women across the global agri-food sector.
