USDA Grant to Prairie View A&M University Strengthens Global Agriculture Training Initiatives

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a new grant to Prairie View A&M University aimed at expanding international agriculture training and capacity-building programs. The funding underscores USDA’s commitment to developing a globally skilled workforce equipped to address food security, climate resilience, and sustainable production challenges.

The grant will support initiatives that enhance student and faculty exposure to international agricultural systems, including experiential learning, global research collaborations, and partnerships with universities and institutions in developing regions. These programs are designed to equip future agricultural professionals with practical knowledge of global supply chains, emerging technologies, and cross-cultural problem-solving.

Prairie View A&M University—already recognized for its leadership in agricultural education within the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) network—plans to use the funding to strengthen curricula, expand exchange opportunities, and integrate international fieldwork into training modules. The initiative aims to prepare graduates to contribute to both domestic and global agri-food sectors.

University officials noted that global agriculture is becoming increasingly interconnected, requiring professionals who understand international markets, climate impacts, and collaborative research approaches. The USDA grant, they said, will help bridge skill gaps and foster a more globally competitive workforce.

By supporting capacity development at Prairie View A&M, the USDA is reinforcing broader national goals of strengthening agricultural innovation, improving food system resilience, and promoting sustainable development partnerships worldwide.
