The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR–IARI) has achieved a landmark milestone with its first-ever inclusion in the prestigious QS World University Rankings under the Agriculture & Forestry category. This global recognition underscores the institute’s academic excellence, scientific innovation, and growing international impact in agricultural research.

IARI’s entry into the rankings marks a significant moment for Indian agricultural education, reflecting decades of contribution to crop improvement, agri-technologies, and sustainable farming systems. The QS evaluation highlights the institute’s strong research output, influential publications, and its expanding role in global knowledge networks.

According to officials, the recognition affirms IARI’s leadership in areas such as genetics and plant breeding, climate-resilient agriculture, biotechnology, and integrated farming systems. The institute’s collaborations with international research organizations and its role in developing high-yielding, stress-tolerant crop varieties were key factors bolstering its ranking performance.

Experts note that this achievement strengthens India’s position on the global agricultural research landscape, demonstrating the country’s expanding capacity for advanced scientific work in food security, environmental sustainability, and agri-innovation.

The institute emphasized that it will continue investing in frontier research, strengthening its academic programs, and expanding its global partnerships to address emerging agricultural challenges. For students and researchers, the QS ranking represents enhanced visibility and increased opportunities for international collaboration.
