Avoid These Mistakes in Wheat Sowing! Agriculture Scientist Shares Formula for 18–25 Quintals Yield Per Acre

As rabi season progresses across Bihar, wheat sowing is picking up pace in Bhojpur and surrounding districts. Many farmers are preparing their fields, but one common question continues to surface—how much seed is needed for one acre, and what yield can be expected?

To help farmers make informed decisions, Local18 spoke with agricultural scientist A.K. Maurya from Bhojpur, who emphasized that correct seed quantity, proper irrigation, and balanced fertilizer use can significantly boost yields. According to him, farmers can achieve 18–25 quintals of wheat per acre by following the right method.

How Much Wheat Seed Is Needed for One Acre?

Wheat sowing in Bihar typically takes place from late November to early December. For one acre of land, 120–125 kg of wheat seed is usually considered ideal. However, the quantity varies depending on the sowing method:

  • Seed Drill Method:
Only 100–110 kg of seed is sufficient because the drill places seeds uniformly and reduces wastage.
  • Broadcasting (Hand Sowing) Method:
This method requires 120–130 kg of seed per acre, as more seed is spread and a portion may go to waste due to uneven distribution.

Maurya advises farmers to carefully choose the sowing technique based on available equipment and local soil conditions.

Right Irrigation and Fertilizer Key to Higher Yields

The agriculture expert added that timely irrigation and the correct application of fertilizers significantly influence crop output. With the proper combination of inputs, farmers can expect a healthy yield of 18–25 quintals per acre, helping improve both productivity and profitability.

As rabi sowing continues across Bihar, experts encourage farmers to adopt scientific methods to maximize returns and ensure crop success.
