ICAR Holds Second Zonal Meeting in Cuttack, Emphasizes ‘Team ICAR’ Spirit

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) organized the second zonal meeting on administrative and financial matters on January 5, 2026, at ICAR–Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI), Cuttack. The meeting was chaired by Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) and Director General, ICAR. On this occasion, he stressed the importance of strengthening the “Team ICAR” spirit, calling for collective responsibility, effective coordination, and institutional strengthening.

Dr. Jat highlighted that excellence in research institutions is not possible without administrative and financial efficiency. He urged all zonal institutes to ensure effective utilization of resources, maintain transparency, and adopt a results-oriented work culture. The meeting included detailed discussions on simplifying administrative processes, strengthening financial management, and various aspects of human resource development.

Following the meeting, Dr. Jat engaged with CRRI scientists and staff. He appreciated India’s progress in rice production in 2025 while also drawing attention to challenges such as climate change, soil health degradation, and increasing pressure on natural resources. He emphasized that addressing these challenges requires scientific preparedness, innovation, technological solutions, and continuous capacity building.

During the meeting, Dr. D. K. Yadav shared insights on genome editing, development of climate-resilient rice varieties, and integrated pest management. He noted that advanced biotechnology and research could offer solutions to future challenges. Meanwhile, Dr. A. K. Nayak highlighted CRRI’s key achievements, ongoing research projects, and the institute’s future strategies.

It was also clarified that ICAR institutes will continue to prioritize research aligned with farmers’ needs, playing a vital role in achieving national goals of sustainable agriculture and food security. The zonal meeting proved to be significant not only in strengthening administrative coordination but also in energizing Indian agricultural research with renewed focus and direction.
