Revised Data Ethics Guide Released by AgGateway

AgGateway, the international non-profit dedicated to advancing digital connectivity in agriculture, has announced the release of its revised Data Ethics Guide, a resource designed to help farmers, agri-businesses, and technology providers navigate the challenges of responsible data management.

The updated guide focuses on building trust, transparency, and accountability in the use of agricultural data. As farming becomes increasingly digitized — with tools like precision agriculture, sensors, and artificial intelligence — questions around data ownership, consent, and fair use have grown more urgent.

According to AgGateway, the new edition reflects input from farmers, industry leaders, and technology experts, ensuring that it addresses both ethical concerns and practical realities. It outlines principles to safeguard farmer privacy, improve clarity in data agreements, and promote fair business practices when handling sensitive farm information.

“Farmers need to know that their data is secure and being used responsibly,” said an AgGateway spokesperson. “This revised guide strengthens the foundation for trust between growers, agri-tech companies, and other stakeholders across the food value chain.”

The timing is significant, as agricultural businesses worldwide are expanding digital services and using big data to improve yields, manage resources, and adapt to climate challenges. Industry experts say the guide will serve as a benchmark for ethical standards, helping companies integrate responsible practices into contracts, product design, and long-term strategies.

AgGateway officials emphasized that the guide is not a regulation but a voluntary framework that encourages collaboration and respect for farmer rights. The organization plans to continue updating the guide as technology and data practices evolve.

By addressing the ethical side of digital farming, the revised Data Ethics Guide underscores a critical message: innovation in agriculture must advance hand in hand with responsibility and trust.
