UPL Wins SBCOP Award at COP30 for Low-Methane Rice Project

UPL has been honoured with the SBCOP Award in the Food Systems category at COP30 for its Low-Methane Rice Project, a climate-smart initiative designed to reduce methane emissions in rice cultivation through advanced sustainable practices.

The award recognizes UPL’s commitment to developing science-based, scalable solutions that strengthen sustainable food systems while addressing the pressing challenges of climate change. The Low-Methane Rice Project empowers farmers with innovative practices that not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also enhance productivity and resilience, aligning environmental sustainability with agricultural development.

Commenting on the recognition, Jai Shroff, Chairman & Group CEO of UPL, said, “It is an honour for UPL to receive the SBCOP Award. This project empowers farmers with science-backed practices that enhance resilience and enable a more climate-friendly pathway for agriculture.”

The achievement highlights UPL’s continued focus on leveraging research and innovation to create positive impact in agriculture and food systems worldwide. Through initiatives like the Low-Methane Rice Project, UPL demonstrates that sustainable practices can be both environmentally responsible and economically beneficial for farmers.

This milestone reinforces UPL’s mission to reimagine sustainability and empower farmers through its #AFarmerCan initiative, which aims to provide practical tools, knowledge, and technologies to help farmers adapt to climate challenges, improve yields, and contribute to a more sustainable food system.
