“One Tree for Mother” Campaign Enters Second Phase from Agriculture University; UP Deputy CM Leads Plantation Drive

In a heartfelt tribute to environmental sustainability and motherhood, the second phase of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree for Mother) campaign was launched today at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya inaugurated the initiative by planting a sapling and administered the “Raksha Ropan” (Protective Plantation) pledge to children, women, local representatives, and the public.

The massive state-wide campaign, which commenced on July 9, 2025, aims to plant over 370 million saplings across Uttar Pradesh. With active involvement from educational institutions, civil society organizations, and rural communities, the movement seeks to turn tree plantation into a people’s mission rooted in personal responsibility and environmental consciousness.

Call for Public Participation and Ownership

Speaking at the event, Deputy CM Maurya urged citizens to take ownership of the plantation drive as a duty towards nature and future generations. He emphasized that tree plantation should not be seen as a symbolic act but as a lifelong commitment to environmental protection.

University Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.K. Singh also addressed the gathering, encouraging students to embrace the campaign as a personal pledge. “Tree plantation is not only a step towards environmental protection, but also a safeguard for our water, soil, and air. Students must plant and protect as many saplings as possible,” he said.

A Tribute to Mothers and Nature

On the occasion, State Minister Sanjeev Sikka highlighted the symbolic and emotional significance of the campaign. “Trees are the foundation of life. In the face of climate change and ecological imbalance, each of us should plant at least one tree in the name of our mother. It will be the most meaningful gift we can offer to future generations,” he stated.

He further pointed out the increasing unpredictability of weather patterns due to climate change, stressing the urgent need for collective action. “Participating in this campaign launched by the Modi and Yogi governments is our shared responsibility to protect the environment and secure our future,” he added.

More Than a Plantation Drive  A Mass Awareness Movement

The “One Tree for Mother” campaign is not merely about planting trees; it represents a deeper message of environmental sensitivity, awareness, and civic duty. The initiative aspires to reconnect citizens with nature and transform the green mission into a cultural movement.

The launch event witnessed enthusiastic participation from school students, village leaders, women’s groups, volunteers, and university faculty, all of whom took part in the plantation activity with a pledge to care for the trees.

Greening Uttar Pradesh, One Tree at a Time

As this campaign gathers momentum, it is poised to become one of the largest public-driven afforestation movements in the country. Through emotional connect, public involvement, and institutional support, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” aims to transform the landscape of Uttar Pradesh  both literally and spiritually.
