Andhra Pradesh Allocates ₹53,752 Crore to Strengthen Agriculture and Rural Economy

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has earmarked ₹53,752 crore for agricultural development in its latest budget, underscoring a strong policy push to enhance farm productivity, modernize infrastructure, and strengthen rural livelihoods.

The allocation places significant emphasis on expanding irrigation networks to ensure reliable water access for farmers. Investments in major and minor irrigation projects are expected to improve water-use efficiency and stabilize crop yields, particularly in drought-prone areas.

A notable feature of the budget is the integration of advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions in agriculture. These tools will support precision farming, real-time crop monitoring, soil health assessment, and data-driven decision-making, helping farmers optimize input use and reduce production risks.

The government has also reinforced crop insurance coverage to protect farmers against climate-related uncertainties, including erratic rainfall and extreme weather events. Enhanced insurance mechanisms aim to provide timely compensation and reduce financial stress during crop losses.

In addition, the budget maintains substantial power subsidies for the agriculture sector, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply for irrigation and farm operations. Farmer welfare schemes, including direct benefit transfers and support for input procurement, remain central to the state’s strategy to improve income stability.

Officials stated that the comprehensive package is designed to strengthen rural economies, increase agricultural output, and build long-term resilience in the farming sector. By combining infrastructure expansion, technological innovation, and financial safeguards, Andhra Pradesh aims to position its agriculture as both competitive and sustainable in the coming years.
