Government Strengthens Natural Farming Initiatives Across India

: The Government of India is actively promoting natural farming practices under the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) to enhance sustainable agriculture, soil health, and farmer incomes.

Implemented in coordination with states and union territories, the mission has established 17,639 natural farming clusters across 623 districts, providing training to 879,000 farmers to adopt eco-friendly and cost-effective agricultural practices.

Under the mission’s operational guidelines, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) play a pivotal role in delivering on-field training to Community Resource Persons (CRPs), “Krishi Sakhi” women farmers, and other cultivators at model demonstration farms. Farmers are trained in locally relevant natural farming packages, including preparation and application of inputs like Beejamrit, Jeevamrit, and Neemastr, which reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

To facilitate market linkages and ensure quality control of natural farming products, the National Centre of Organic and Natural Farming (NCONF) in Ghaziabad has developed an online certification system, named Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) – India Natural. This digital platform enables online registration and certification of natural farming practitioners, ensuring transparency and recognition for farmers adopting these sustainable practices.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Shri Ramnath Thakur, informed the Rajya Sabha that the government remains committed to expanding natural farming across India, empowering farmers with the knowledge, tools, and digital systems required for sustainable and profitable agriculture.
