In a major initiative to strengthen collaboration between agricultural research and the corporate sector, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and AgriInnovate India Limited (AgIn) organized the ICAR Technology Portfolio for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Conclave 2026 at the NASC Complex, New Delhi. The conclave aimed to create a strong partnership between scientific institutions and corporate organizations so that innovative agricultural technologies can reach farmers faster and contribute to sustainable rural development.
The event brought together leading corporate houses, industry associations, financial institutions, philanthropic organizations, startups, agricultural scientists, policymakers, development agencies, and other stakeholders. The conclave highlighted the growing role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in supporting agricultural innovation, technology dissemination, and farmer welfare.
CSR Emerging as a Catalyst for Agricultural Development
At the conclave, ICAR showcased its CSR-Ready Technology Portfolio, featuring research projects and technologies that companies can support through their CSR initiatives. The portfolio focuses not only on increasing agricultural productivity but also on enhancing farmers’ income, conserving natural resources, promoting climate resilience, and strengthening rural livelihoods.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 75 industries, represented by nearly 150 corporate delegates, reflecting growing interest from the private sector in partnering with ICAR to promote agricultural development.
In addition, 570 participants joined virtually, while the event’s YouTube live stream attracted over 1,600 viewers, significantly expanding its outreach among agricultural professionals, researchers, industry leaders, and farmers across the country.
Five Strategic Themes for Future Agriculture
The conclave centered discussions around five priority areas that are expected to shape the future of Indian agriculture.
Climate-Resilient Agriculture
Experts emphasized the need to develop and promote technologies capable of helping farmers cope with climate change, including droughts, floods, rising temperatures, and erratic rainfall. Climate-smart farming was identified as one of the country’s highest agricultural priorities.
Soil Health through Nature-Based Solutions
Participants discussed sustainable farming practices, bio-fertilizers, crop diversification, and nature-based soil management approaches. Healthy soils were recognized as the foundation of long-term agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability.
Agriculture for Better Nutrition
The conclave also focused on promoting biofortified crops, safe food production, organic farming, and nutritionally enriched agricultural products. Experts stressed that agriculture plays a critical role not only in food production but also in improving public health and nutrition.
Agricultural Skill Development
The need to equip farmers and rural youth with skills in digital agriculture, drones, farm mechanization, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies was widely discussed. Skill development initiatives were seen as essential for creating employment opportunities and accelerating technology adoption in rural India.
Empowering Women in Agriculture
Participants highlighted the importance of strengthening the role of women farmers by improving their access to technology, training, financial resources, and extension services. Greater participation of women was viewed as vital for increasing agricultural productivity and inclusive rural development.
Nationwide Roadshows Build Industry Engagement
Ahead of the national conclave, ICAR and AgriInnovate India organized four regional CSR and Technology Portfolio Roadshows to engage industries across different regions of the country.
The roadshows were conducted in Hyderabad (20 June), Bengaluru (23 June), Mumbai (1 July), and Kolkata (7 July). More than 500 stakeholders, including representatives from ICAR institutes, industries, startups, entrepreneurs, NGOs, and media organizations, participated in these regional interactions.
These events generated strong interest among companies in supporting technology commercialization, farmer training, sustainable agriculture, and natural resource conservation through collaborative CSR initiatives.
Leading Corporates Announce Partnerships
Several prominent organizations expressed their commitment to partnering with ICAR and AgriInnovate India Limited for CSR and research & development (R&D) initiatives.
Among the key participants were the Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited (AICL), SBI Foundation, UCO Bank, ICICI Foundation, Biovet Pvt. Ltd., Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), INFAH, Venkateshwara Hatcheries Pvt. Ltd., Pidilite Industries Ltd., and Yes Bank.
These organizations pledged support for technology dissemination, research-based projects, farmer training, agricultural innovation, and sustainable rural development.
Faster Technology Transfer to Farmers
Experts noted that agricultural innovations achieve real impact only when they reach farmers quickly and effectively. Corporate support can significantly accelerate the dissemination of improved seeds, climate-resilient technologies, farm machinery, natural farming models, digital agriculture solutions, and skill development programmes developed by ICAR.
CSR investments can also strengthen demonstration projects, digital advisory services, farmer entrepreneurship, market linkages, and capacity-building initiatives, helping farmers adopt modern technologies more rapidly and improve their incomes.
Building a Strong Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture
The conclave reinforced ICAR’s vision that the future of Indian agriculture will be driven not only by government initiatives but also through strong partnerships among scientific institutions, industries, financial organizations, startups, and civil society.
Experts concluded that strategic utilization of CSR resources in agricultural research, technology transfer, and rural development has the potential to make Indian agriculture more modern, competitive, climate-resilient, and sustainable. By bringing together science, innovation, and corporate responsibility, ICAR CSR Conclave 2026 is expected to open a new chapter in agricultural transformation and improve the livelihoods of millions of farmers across the country.
