The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has announced plans to digitize 1,297 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) across Jharkhand, a move aimed at modernizing rural financial services and improving accessibility for farmers.
Under this initiative, PACS will be equipped with digital platforms for seamless account management, loan processing, and transaction monitoring. Farmers will benefit from faster credit disbursal, real-time account updates, and improved transparency in financial operations.
Officials from NABARD highlighted that digitization will also strengthen record-keeping, enable better tracking of government subsidies, and support financial inclusion in rural areas. “This step will empower farmers with easy access to credit and modern banking services, fostering efficiency and transparency in agricultural financing,” said a NABARD spokesperson.
Jharkhand, with its significant rural population, relies heavily on PACS for small loans, crop financing, and support for cooperative farming activities. Digitizing these societies is expected to streamline operations, reduce paperwork, and make rural credit delivery more efficient.
Experts say that this initiative aligns with India’s broader goals of digital financial inclusion and modernization of rural cooperative institutions. It is also expected to enhance farmer participation in government schemes and improve overall agricultural productivity.
NABARD has planned a phased implementation across the state, along with training programs for PACS staff to ensure smooth adoption of digital systems. The project is being closely monitored to ensure timely rollout and maximum benefit to rural communities.
