Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Encourages Farmers to Adopt Modern and Climate-Smart Farming During Visit to Gondia KVK

Gondia, Maharashtra – Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, visited the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Gondia district to review the progress of regional agricultural development programs and engage directly with scientists, experts, and a large gathering of farmers.

During his visit, Minister Chouhan emphasized the urgent need for farmers to adopt modern agricultural practices in response to the changing climate. “The impacts of climate change are now evident, and it is crucial for farmers to embrace climate-smart farming methods, micro-irrigation systems, advanced seed varieties, and resource-conservation technologies,” he stated.

Highlighting the vital role of KVKs, the minister praised the centers for their research, training, and field demonstrations. He described KVKs as a critical link between scientific knowledge and farmers’ practical needs. He urged scientists to develop innovations tailored to local conditions and ensure they are communicated in simple, accessible ways so that maximum farmers can benefit.

Minister Chouhan also encouraged farmers to focus on sustainable, organic, and natural farming practices, crop diversification, and value addition as essential strategies to ensure long-term income growth. “The government remains committed to supporting farmers with all necessary technical and structural assistance, keeping their interests at the forefront,” he affirmed.

During the visit, the minister inspected cutting-edge agricultural equipment and technologies displayed at the KVK campus. He directed officials to ensure these innovations reach farmers widely and effectively, enabling them to improve productivity while conserving resources.

The visit reinforced the government’s commitment to promoting modern, climate-resilient agriculture in Maharashtra. By bridging the gap between research and practice, KVKs aim to empower farmers with knowledge and tools that boost productivity, sustainability, and income.

Minister Chouhan’s engagement with farmers and experts at Gondia KVK highlights the ongoing efforts to make Indian agriculture more resilient, technology-driven, and farmer-centric, ensuring that modern scientific practices translate into tangible benefits for the farming community.
