Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav Meets Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Delhi; Key Decisions Taken for Farmers

Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, met Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss several important issues related to agriculture and rural development in the state. Prahlad Patel, Rural Development Minister of Madhya Pradesh, along with senior officials, was also present during the meeting. The high-level discussion resulted in several key decisions aimed at providing relief to farmers.

One of the major outcomes of the meeting was the approval of payments under the Bhavantar Payment Scheme for mustard procurement. The Union Agriculture Minister approved the proposal submitted by the Madhya Pradesh government and directed the concerned departments to expedite the payment process. The decision is expected to provide significant relief to mustard farmers in the state and ensure that commitments made by the state government to farmers are fulfilled in a timely manner.

Another important decision was related to the procurement of tur (pigeon pea). During the meeting, Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed over the approval letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for 100 percent government procurement of tur. This step is expected to ensure a stable market for farmers cultivating the crop in Madhya Pradesh and reduce the risk of price fluctuations, thereby helping stabilise farmers’ incomes.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of several agricultural and rural development programmes. Key issues discussed included Bhavantar payments for mustard and soybean, additional targets for moong and urad under the National Food Security Mission (pulses component), the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, soil health and fertility programmes, wage and material payments under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), as well as progress under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

The Union Minister directed officials to resolve pending matters related to Madhya Pradesh on a priority basis so that farmers, labourers and rural communities can benefit from government schemes without delay.

Speaking after the meeting, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the year 2026 is being observed as “Farmer Welfare Year” in Madhya Pradesh. He added that the state, being one of India’s major agricultural regions, is receiving special attention for farmer-focused initiatives.

Chouhan also emphasised that farmers cultivating mustard, tur, moong, urad and oilseed crops will receive full support during the Farmer Welfare Year. The decisions taken during the meeting are expected to help farmers secure better prices for their produce and strengthen agricultural stability in the state.

The discussions are seen as a positive step for farmers in Madhya Pradesh, as improved procurement policies and effective implementation of rural development programmes could enhance farm incomes while also strengthening infrastructure and employment opportunities in rural areas.
