IFFCO Nanoventions Opens Innovation Hub in Coimbatore to Advance Nano-Based Farming

IFFCO Nanoventions, the nanotechnology-focused subsidiary of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), has inaugurated a new Innovation Hub at its research and manufacturing facility in Thondamuthur, near Coimbatore. The centre was inaugurated by IFFCO Chairman Dileep Sanghani and marks a significant step in strengthening India’s capabilities in nano-based agricultural inputs.

According to officials, the new hub is designed to accelerate the development and adoption of advanced technologies—particularly nanotechnology—to support farmers, enhance productivity, and promote environmentally sustainable agriculture. The initiative aligns with national priorities around climate resilience, soil health improvement, and efficient resource use in farming systems.

IFFCO Nanoventions is widely known for its nano-based fertilisers such as Nano Urea and Nano DAP, which are already being used by farmers across India. These products enable crops to absorb nutrients more efficiently at the cellular level, allowing farmers to reduce overall fertiliser usage while maintaining or improving yields. Reduced input use also contributes to lower soil and water contamination, supporting long-term soil fertility and ecosystem health.

The Coimbatore facility is among the most advanced agricultural nanotechnology centres in the country. It houses state-of-the-art laboratories, pilot-scale manufacturing units, and comprehensive field-testing infrastructure. Several products developed at the centre have received approval from the central government and have been notified under the Fertiliser Control Order, enabling large-scale commercial use.

The newly launched Innovation Hub will focus on developing solutions for climate-resilient agriculture, improving soil health, and promoting sustainable farming practices. Research efforts will target next-generation nano fertilisers and complementary technologies that address challenges such as nutrient losses, climate stress, and rising input costs for farmers.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dileep Sanghani emphasized the importance of cooperative-led research in addressing structural challenges facing Indian agriculture. He highlighted the role of nano fertilisers as sustainable alternatives that can reduce dependency on conventional inputs while supporting national goals such as Atmanirbhar Bharat.

During the event, IFFCO Nanoventions also launched a new bio-stimulant, DharAmrut, meaning “nectar of the earth.” The product is designed to enhance plant growth, improve stress tolerance, and increase nutrient absorption, further supporting sustainable and climate-smart farming practices.

With the launch of the Innovation Hub, IFFCO Nanoventions aims to strengthen India’s position as a leader in agricultural nanotechnology while delivering practical, farmer-centric solutions for the future of agriculture.
