Bram Govaerts, the Director-General of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), has been awarded the prestigious Commander of the Order of the Crown by the Kingdom of Belgium. The national honor recognizes his outstanding contributions to sustainable agriculture, scientific innovation, and global food security.

Govaerts, a leading figure in international agricultural research, has played a pivotal role in promoting climate-smart farming practices, improving smallholder livelihoods, and advancing efforts to build resilient food systems worldwide. The recognition underscores Govaerts’ long-standing commitment to advancing sustainable farming solutions, particularly in regions vulnerable to climate change.

In response to the honor, Govaerts emphasized the importance of collaborative research and global partnerships in meeting future food challenges. He noted that strengthening science-based innovations is essential for ensuring food security for a rapidly growing population.
