In a district of Uttar Pradesh, a major issue has surfaced affecting 30,690 beneficiaries under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. An investigation revealed that 15,345 couples were simultaneously claiming benefits, whereas under the scheme, only one member per family is eligible.
As a result of the findings, the next installment of the scheme has been temporarily blocked for the affected accounts. Authorities are awaiting further directives from the state government after the completion of the investigation.
The district has over 4.8 lakh registered farmers under the PM-KISAN scheme, which provides ₹2,000 every four months, three times a year to eligible farmers. The scheme is designed to support small and marginal farmers, but the investigation found that both husband and wife were receiving payments, leading to duplicate claims.
The Deputy Agriculture Director, Vinay Kumar Verma, has submitted the report requested by the government. He confirmed that the August installment had already been credited to farmers’ accounts, but the government has now imposed a hold on future payments until the issue is resolved.
This incident highlights the importance of strict monitoring and verification to ensure that government welfare schemes benefit the intended farmers without duplication or misuse.
